Linen Care 101: Keep Your Linen Beautiful for Years

Linen is one of the oldest and most durable natural fibres in the world. With the right care it stays beautiful for years — which is exactly why it is a favourite for premium apparel, home textiles and hospitality. This guide covers everything wholesale buyers, retailers and hotel buyers need to know.

1. Washing linen

Machine wash linen at 30–40°C with a mild detergent. Turn garments inside out to protect the surface, and separate light and dark colours for the first few washes. Avoid chlorine bleach — it weakens the fibre. For stubborn marks, a gentle oxygen-based stain remover works well.

2. Drying and ironing

Air drying is best: it extends the life of the fibre and lets linen develop its signature soft hand-feel. Linen is naturally prone to creasing; if you iron, do it while the fabric is still slightly damp, or use the steam setting. Many buyers now embrace the relaxed, wrinkled look as part of linen's charm.

3. Storing linen

Store linen in a cool, dry, breathable space. Avoid sealed plastic bags — use cotton storage bags instead so the fibre can breathe. Keep it away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fade over long periods.

4. Sourcing linen wholesale

When buying in bulk, always check three things: fabric weight (gsm), weave density, and certification. Heavier weights (180–220 g/m²) suit structured apparel and upholstery; lighter weights are ideal for summer shirts and scarves. Browse our wholesale catalog or start an order on WhatsApp to confirm MOQ, lead time and custom options.

Does linen shrink?

Pre-washed linen shrinks very little. Untreated linen may shrink 3–5% on the first wash. At YOUJIA we pre-wash for dimensional stability, so your customers get consistent sizing.

Can linen be tumble-dried?

Yes, on low heat. But air-drying is kinder to the fibre and naturally softens it, so we recommend it for long-term quality.
